How to check and get an appointment: Go to http://www.usvisa-mexico.com/visa-web/index.jsp and create an account. Once you login pay 8 USD to check and book an appointment.
Checklist: 1. I-797 Approval notice with new I-94. 2. Passport. 3. Employment verification letter from your employer. 4. Employment verification letter from your current client if you are a contractor. 5. Offer letter provided by your employer while filing your H1B. 6. 1 Passport size photo. 7. DS156, DS 157, DS158 (all three forms are required for either gender) 8. Employer office photos. 9. Employer tax returns. 10. Resume. 11. Your previous pay stubs – at least 3 months pay stubs are required. 12. W2 forms, if you have any. 13. Your Degree certificates (Masters, B.tech, Intermediate, 10th). 14. Your current Bank Statement. 15. All papers sent to USCIS while filing your H1B.
How to Go to Nogales: Nogales is in Arizona as well as in Mexico. If you speak Spanish, you can stay in Mexico otherwise its better to stay in Nogales, AZ, US and take the cab to US Consulate in Mexico, it takes 20 mins and costs less than 10 USD.
Banamex Bank Receipt: The fee for H1-B stamping is around $103(this may vary and will not be more than $110). Banamex bank is is at a 10 mins walking distance from consulate. There is one branch in near by Walmart and the other in next block. You can also get the bank receipt by paying the requisite amount through brokers while you are in US(mexico-assistance.com). It will be around $50 more than the original amount you pay directly in the Bank.
Problems faced: Cell phones, car keys with remote are not allowed into Consulate and if you have no other choice you can leave them in walmart. Walmart staff is very friendly and accept to keep your things safely till you return. Second option, there is one mobile canteen in near by taxi stand, they also take your things but charge 2 USD to safeguard them.
Phase1: Security Check Your appointment form will be checked and you will be sent inside through the security check which is just like airport security check and is very simple.
Phase2: Number allotting, DS form Checking, Banamex receipt checking: You will be allocated a number which is given on a first come first serve basis. DS156, DS 157 and DS 158 forms are checked and stamped and the Banamex bank receipt will be verified.
Phase3: Finger Print and Photo: All your 10 fingers would be scanned and a photo would be shot. The data on DS forms and passport is cross checked.
Phase4: Interview:
Phase5: Collect your passport: If your VISA is approved, visa officer will give you a yellow ticket to collect your passport. The yellow ticket will have next day date to collect your passport but still you can go and check the same day for your passport. Usually you will get it the same day at 3:00 PM
Phase5: Immigration: This is at the border while you are entering into US. Be prepared to wait for at least 2 hours. Issuing I-94 is very slow and it may take more time. Your current I-94 and I-797 would be retained by the official and a new I-94 will be issued. A nominal fee of $6 would be charged.
